Super Duper Fresh Snappers From Brazil this Week-End Only!
Our fish guys from the Fulton Fish Market were so excited about the quality of the Snappers they got in this morning, they woke me up at 4am, bubbling with excitement!
“Wi Ave Some WICKED Red Snapper fi yu dis mawnin, bredren” Mike screamed over the phone, with all the forklifts beeping in the background, killing any chance of me going back to sleep! “Yu haffi mek some Roas Fish dis week-end, ‘cause dem fish ya too pretty fi fry!” He instructed.
So, sharing in the excitement, I got dressed and headed over to the kitchen at Ripe, to prep for the fish delivery, and to make additions to my produce order to include Chinese Spinach, and Okra, and to get the stockpot simmering for the fish broth.
Mike pulled up at 10am with the biggest smile on his face. The look on his face always gives away the quality of fish you are about to lay your eyes on.

“Boss, I man coming for some Roas Fish tonight, so save two ordah fi me and mi girl” He insisted.
Upon peering into the Styrofoam box, that still had the Fed-X stamp on the outside, I saw the most amazing Red Snappers you could ever find in New York at this time of year! “Only the Toppa Top custama dem can get dis” he confided, telling me something I already knew.

These Snappers boarded a NON-Stop flight from Congonhas Airport in Brazil to JFK, took a quick detour through the market, and then terminated at Ripe’s kitchen. They truly are remarkable, and on Ripe’s Menu tonight!!!!

Rum Tasting

We have new rums arriving straight from the sugarcane fields in Jamaica, sent to us by the importers to “test” in our signature Mojito.

We were told that we were chosen for this test based on the high level of rum drinking and carousing witnessed by one of the partners while on a recent visit to the restaurant. With that in mind, we are in the process of putting together an “Extreme Rum Drinking/Mojito Making Invitational” for a select group of our VIP members.

Look out for the details, or if you are a die-hard RumDrinker, you may “pre-reserve” a seat at the bar before the
announcement of the date, by emailing us at info@riperestaurant.com. Put “rum tasting” in the subject, and tell us how many people would like to attend.

The event will be held on a Wednesday at 7:00pm.

If you have an abundance of bananas, or if yours have turned black, peel them, wrap them in foil, and pop them in the freezer. They'll keep for four to five months. You can eat them as a frozen treat or use them for baking. Black bananas are riper and therefore sweeter than fresher yellow bananas, making them perfect for cakes and loaf breads. Freeze them two at a time, the equivalent to about one cup.
