"Ripe To Tell">
Cinco De Mayo & Rasta-Rita's
May 1, 2009
Every life has one of those defining moments—standing at the crossroads, wondering which way to turn.
But if you're at West Sandford Boulevard and 11th Street in Mount Vernon, no need to fry all the brain cells on that thought process, just caminando 12 grande footsteps due east, hop up to the left, loosen your tie, belt, girdle, lips, or whatever has you wound up so tight, and get ready to lose those brain cells more pleasantly.
Relax…. you are now under the tutelage of an accomplished imbibing establishment.
As the weather starts to get a little balmy, basement parties probably aren't going to cut it (actually, they don't cut it in the dead of winter either). You're looking for a little passion, a few beads of sweat and something that feels a little more…tropical.
Welcome to Ripe’s Cinco De Mayo Week-End.
Though we have no claims on beating the crap out of the French and kicking them out of México, we as Jamaicans have done our fair share of ass kicking also.
Though it may have been our spouse, mongrel dog pet, or the bus conductor who felt the wrath of our unprovoked burst of violence, we nonetheless join our Mexican brethren in the celebration of their successful defeat of the French and our history of violent behavior. Think of Ripe’s Cinco De Mayo Week-end as the neighborhood Reggae vibe you always wish you knew about, right around the time things start to get a little loose on a Friday night.
If you work up an appetite, fill up on some tasty bar specials that help soak up the potent and infamous Rasta-rita’s served every year at this time!
Then comes that defining moment: to call it a night, or to order another Marg…..
